Petrol prices differ from state to state depending on local taxation (VAT) and freight charges apart from excise duty charged by the Centre. Taking ₹100/litre as base price of petrol for every state, an Indian Express infographic citing government data states that tax paid in Maharashtra is ₹65.22, Delhi is ₹48.5, Uttarakhand is ₹46.07, Karnataka is ₹55.02, Telangana is ₹64.3.
