Nearly 100 civilians, including 20 children, were killed in Syria's eastern Ghouta area on Monday in the deadliest shelling by Syrian government forces in three years, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said. Held by rebels since 2012, eastern Ghouta is one of the last rebel-held strongholds near the Syrian capital of Damascus.
