8,000-year-old jars offer earliest evidence of winemaking

Archaeologists in Georgia have uncovered wine traces within clay pottery dating back to 6,000-5,800 BC, presenting evidence of the world's earliest known winemaking. Researchers found traces of tartaric acid, a substance found in grapes, in the fragments while grape pollen was also found at excavation sites. Previous earliest winemaking evidence was found in Iran, dating back to 5,400-5,000 BC.
