UK-based astrophysicist Alan Fitzsimmons said that an asteroid strike on Earth is a case of when it will happen, rather than if it will happen. Fitzsimmons said over 1,800 potentially hazardous near-Earth asteroids have been discovered so far, and one strike could easily destroy a major city. Fitzsimmons was highlighting the threat before the upcoming Asteroid Day on June 30.
