China-born New Zealand MP Yang Jian has denied being a Chinese spy after it emerged that he had spent years studying and teaching in universities with links to Chinese intelligence services. Adding that he is proud to call himself a New Zealander though he was not born there, Jian said, "I challenge those who are propagating these defamatory statements."
