Computer scientist & code compiler pioneer Frances Allen dies on 88th birthday

American computer scientist Frances Allen, best known for compilers or the software that turns raw code into fast-running executables, passed away on her 88th birthday on August 4. Her death was confirmed by her great-nephew, Ryan McKee, who said the cause of her death was Alzheimer's disease. In 2006, Allen became the first woman to win the Turing Award.
