The government stated cryptocurrency transactions or virtual assets will now come under ambit of Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002. In a gazette notification, the Finance Ministry said anti-money laundering legislation has been applied to crypto trading, safekeeping and related financial services. Crypto exchanges will have to report suspicious activity to Financial Intelligence Unit India.
