On the day of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) election results on Thursday, Sanjay Nirupam resigned as Mumbai Congress Chief accepting responsibility for party's defeat in BMC poll. Out of the total 227 BMC wards, Shiv Sena was leading on 92, BJP on 77, Congress on 29, MNS on 6, NCP on 7, and others on 14 till 2.30 pm.
