Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate Jonathone N Sangma was reportedly shot dead on Sunday, days before the Meghalaya Assembly elections. The 42-year-old was to contest elections on February 27 from the Williamnagar seat. In 2013 Assembly elections, he unsuccessfully contested as an independent candidate from the same seat. The cause of the shooting is not yet known.
