short by Gaurav Shroff / on Tuesday, 12 September, 2017
China-based researchers have developed a fibre with a thickness of less than a millimetre that generates electrical power when surrounded by flowing solution, in a thin tube or even in a blood vessel. Made with an array of carbon nanotubes, the prototype generated power with over 20% efficiency, while tests with frog nerves were also successful, said researchers.
