The latest data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has put the number of mobile subscribers in the country at 101.79 crore as on January 31, 2016. Meanwhile, the number of wireline subscribers stood at 2.53 crore. Further, India's overall tele-density (number of telephone connections for every 100 individuals) was 82.3, with urban tele-density thrice the rural.
