PM Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid tributes to a 12th-century Lingayat philosopher Basaveshwara by offering flowers at his statue along the banks of Thames river during his ongoing UK visit. The event's organisers have denied any connection of the tribute to the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections on May 12. The Lingayats constitute an estimated 17% of Karnataka's population.
