Study finds why oldest ocean water is trapped for 1,000 yrs
short by Gaurav Shroff / on Tuesday, 21 November, 2017
An international team has revealed how the oldest water in Pacific and Indian oceans has remained trapped in a "shadow zone" for over 1,000 years. The study found that the stagnant water is isolated by rising currents over a constrained seafloor geometry, which does not allow the water to rise above a depth of 2.5 kilometres.
