Warming oceans turning 99% of turtles female at barrier reef

Over 99% of young green sea turtles at the northern Great Barrier Reef are now female because of warmer temperatures, a US-based study has found. The temperature at which eggs incubate determines the sex of the offspring. With average global temperature predicted to increase to 2.6ºC by 2100, scientists fear high egg mortality and female-only offspring production among the species.
