What is Daylight Saving Time and why is it used?

Daylight Saving Time is a seasonal time change practiced mostly in the Northern Hemisphere, wherein clocks are set ahead of the standard time by one hour in spring and are rolled back in autumn. The practice was first started in Canada in 1908 and has been implemented by over 70 countries to observe more daylight hours and to conserve energy.
