A spot in Venezuela is struck by lightning 28 times a minute

The meeting point of Catatumbo River and Lake Maracaibo in Venezuela witnesses an average of 28 lightning flashes each minute during monsoon. The 'Catatumbo Lightning' phenomenon is recognised by Guinness as the 'highest concentration of lightning', at 250 lightning flashes per square kilometre yearly. Experts believe that the lightning is caused by an abundance of methane from oil fields below.
