Ruth Wakefield, who was the owner of Toll House Inn in Massachusetts, invented chocolate chip cookies accidentally. She invented them when, while preparing a batch of cookies, she ran out of baking chocolate and substituted it with pieces of Nestlé's semi-sweet chocolate, but the pieces did not melt. Wakefield later sold the recipe to Nestlé for lifetime supply of chocolate.
