First ever rotating 'white dwarf' star discovered
short by Gaurav Shroff / on Friday, 10 February, 2017
Astronomers found the first 'white dwarf' pulsar since the discovery of the first pulsar (a rotating radiation-emitting star) 50 years ago. Until now, pulsars were only associated with neutron stars, a dense compact star usually 20-km wide and mass double that of the sun. Stars evolve into white dwarfs or neutron stars and eventually black holes depending on their mass.
