US-based meal replacement beverage maker Soylent has raised $50 million led by GV, formerly known as Google Ventures, and existing investors like Andreessen Horowitz and Lerer Hippeau Ventures. Soylent was forced to recall multiple products in the past year after its food bars made customers "violently ill" and products labelled lactose-free were found to contain milk traces.
