Greenhouse gas-eating bacteria found deep in Antarctic lake

Researchers have discovered methane-eating bacteria in the subglacial Lake Whillans, which is a 60 square kilometre body of water deep beneath the surface of Antarctica. The lake, which has been isolated from direct contact with the atmosphere for thousands of years, had the bacteria that consumed 99% of the methane gas released into the lake.
