Hurricane Irma has become the world's longest storm to sustain winds of 185 mph since 1980, by bearing the winds at that speed for over 24 hours. Irma which is due to hit the US state of Florida on Sunday has caused one of the largest evacuations in the country's history and is also one of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes.
