New bionic eye helps blind woman see shapes, colours

California-based scientists claim to have developed a bionic eye implant which has helped a woman blind for seven years regain the ability to see shapes and colours. It consists of a small spectacle-mounted camera that sends electrical signals through a computer to skull implants. The implants were connected to the brain's visual processing region, enabling the subject to sense images.
