New blood test can identify depression and schizophrenia

US-based researchers have developed a blood test to detect levels of a hormone that differs in people with mental disorders. The hormone arginine-vasopressin (AVP) has increased levels in case of depression and decreased for schizophrenia. Comparing the patient's AVP with standard levels, researchers were able to make a diagnosis, however, the procedure needs to be developed for commercial use.
