US-based researchers have developed a smartphone-controlled diagnostic device that can detect Zika, dengue, and chikungunya within 30 minutes. The device weighs less than half a kg and costs around ₹6,500. The device heats and cools the blood sample repeatedly which causes rapid DNA replication followed by image analysis by the app, giving a quick diagnosis of the mosquito-caused disease.
