New solar cell turns CO2 into burnable fuel
short by Swarnim Bagre / on Sunday, 31 July, 2016
US-based researchers have engineered a new solar cell that can convert atmospheric carbon dioxide directly into usable hydrocarbon fuel using only sunlight. The team used a new catalyst, named tungsten diselenide, which they claim is 1,000 times faster than noble-metal catalysts and about 20 times cheaper. It is more active and able in breaking carbon dioxide’s bonds, a researcher said.
