US-Canada border is a 20-foot-wide treeless area

The entire length of the US-Canada boundary is marked by a 20-foot-wide slash through the trees. Known as 'The Slash', the treeless area spans 8,891 kilometres along the boundary, covering isolated islands and mountains. The boundary, which comprises about 900 zig-zag lines, is maintained by the International Boundary Commission (IBC).
