Why does snow appear white if snowflakes are clear?
short by Sanira Mediratta / on Thursday, 2 February, 2017
Snow appears white even though snowflakes are mostly clear because of the eye's understanding of visible light and the wavelengths of different colours. When light falls on an object, the wavelengths that are reflected or absorbed by the object, determine what colour the eyes perceive. Conclusively, a collection of snowflakes appears white as all the light is reflected.
