The longest lightning bolt in the world travelled a horizontal distance of 199.5 miles (approximately 321 kilometres), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has confirmed. It occurred in Oklahoma, USA, on June 20, 2007. The WMO also revealed that the flash over Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, France, on August 30, 2012, lasted for 7.74 seconds, becoming world's longest-lasting lightning bolt.
