India had an inheritance tax of up to 85% until the Rajiv Gandhi Govt. abolished it. Afterwards, FMs like P Chidambaram and Arun Jaitley supported its reintroduction. Japan levies the inheritance tax at 55%, France at 45%, and the US at 40%. But India is already grappling with numerous taxes, so another tax will put burden on common people.
