Insurer fined ₹25,000 for not paying full medi-claim as man dies of COVID

A consumer disputes redressal commission has imposed ₹25,000-fine on Oriental Insurance for not paying full mediclaim after a man died of COVID-19 in 2021. The man's wife claimed the insurer paid only ₹3 lakh out of the ₹5.35-lakh claim. Oriental was asked to reimburse remaining claim amount with 9% interest/annum, pay ₹15,000 for mental agony and ₹10,000 as litigation costs.
